I am having difficulty getting members of my squadron to sign up for SailAngle and I don't really understand why. Is anyone else having that problem? Is it just resistance to change or resistance to try something new? Grrrrrrr
Hi Trip,
You are not alone. It's really tough getting people to sign up and it's so easy. Maybe they don't yet see all the benefits or are thinking "well it is going to be a while before everyone signs up, so I will just take my time"...
Can you send me your email address by private message and I will forward you something that you can send to your Squadron Members to help them sign up.
Also, I see you are in Moss Landing. I am actually from Monterey/Carmel so am up there pretty frequently.
I'm having the same problem. I plan to do a meeting program on it this winter. I've got most of the squadron executive committee on board, but it petered out after that. It will take a major campaign, perhaps a couple computers at a meeting, so members can sign up right there. A workshop of sorts.
Back in Sept when I first became aware of this site I started several posts hoping to get some discusions started. It appears that what I started did not spark any interest as I gathered no comments. That is what is wrong with the forum! There is no give and take. without it it will die!
Hopefully we can and will talk boats, where we can go and what we can do with them etc. A bit of USPS is in order as well. However we will need to do more than ask we will need to spark some interest in the subject!
I even jumped into a started disscussion at the ask the pros subject and was ignored there as well!
I have started promoting SailAngle to our USPS Squadron (and to boaters on facebook) starting with getting the officers to sign up for meeting minutes and evaluation of the system. When the January newsletter comes out I have a page of benefits and sign-up instructions so I hope to get more members on board. I would guess that it could take a year to get most of our USPS Squadron on board - but like our electronic newsletter we may never get 100% because some people still resist using a computer or being connected with any personal information on the web. Pass along any advice or tips for Squadron Recruitment.
I offer the suggestion that since USPS National has partnered/agreed to implement this platform for communication that they should preload the Login id, default password, member name - and email address if defined, from the National database. Then each member would have control over the entry of any personal information into SailAngle and opt out of emails at their choice if they decide not to participate.
We are working on doing an auto-load of our entire squadron which seems to be a great solution. If all goes well I will be back with more details or drop me a line.
Our Squadron is also meeting reluctance in joining. We have presented SailAngle at one of our meetings and had a couple members sign up.
I don't know who, at National is pushing SailAngle, but they should start at national first! They seem to want the squadrons to enlist, but they don't seem anxious to use it. For example; The National Meeting to be held in Orlando. Can anyone find anything about it on SailAngle. I can't. The directions, agenda, instructions and price list should be available, if this is to become the primary information conduit.
"I don't know How!" is not an excuse. I didn't know how, and am still learning. The Webinars were a great step, but experience is also a good teacher.
I applaud The "BOC Advanced Skills Certifier" Group. They sent the first Power Squadron associated message I have received.
I feel if HQ and Districts use SailAngle the Squadrons will come around.
