While it is not the America's Cup, has anyone participated in the around Long Island Race?

I am considering entering, but none of my crew and their captain has ever particpated in an endurance race such as this. We are more of a beer can around the buoy on a Wed night type racing crew. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.
