Captain Gordon Hartschuh hails from the Buckeye State of Ohio and has been boating in the Great Lakes region since he built his first homemade paddle boat at the age of 14. Living on Kelley's Island during his high school summers fueled his love and interest in boating on the Great Lakes. Gordon attended the University of Akron, acquiring degrees in Fire Science Technology, Electronics Technology, and a Bachelors Degree in Technical Education. During college he bought his first sport fishing boat and was fortunate enough to travel the inland waterways fishing and enjoying the best of America's heartland.
Ian is a third generation sailor from Cornwall, England. He crossed the English Channel at the age of 3 with his parents and made his first Atlantic crossing at 18. He graduated from Solent University in Southampton with a Bachelor of Engineering in Yacht Design and subsequently obtained his R.Y.A. Commercial Yacht Master License, Ocean Rating.
Captain Bob Wellen has been messing about in boats all his life. He is a graduate of DeVry Institute of Technology, where he earned an Associates Degree of Electronics and Science with Honors. He has more than 20 years experience; 10 of those years as Captain/Engineer on Motor Yachts over 100 feet. In 1997 he served as Shipyard Project Manager and supervised construction of a 98 foot Motor Yacht. He has also managed several yacht refurbishment projects.
Craig started sailing at the age of 4. He grew up in Savannah, Georgia and was active in dinghy and PHRF racing, and now makes his home in Newport, RI. He has been a professional sailor for 15 years and has sailed extensively on the East coast of the United States, Caribbean Sea, Pacific Central American and has participated in dozens of Classic Regattas and big boat races.
Cary is President of Pantaenius America Ltd., a yacht insurance company. In addition, he is a licensed attorney specializing in maritime and insurance law and admitted to the state and federal bars of New York, New Jersey, District of Columbia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Texas. Prior to joining Pantaenius, he was a Senior and Founding Partner of DeOrchis Wiener & Partners LLP, a New York maritime and insurance law firm. As an attorney, he has represented insurance companies and yacht owners; drafted insurance policies; served as P&I correspondent for various Clubs, and litigated personal injury and hull claims.
Mike grew up in Maine and his family has been involved in both commercial and recreational boating for as long as he can remember. In addition to being a professional sailor, he is a skilled carpenter and a licensed contractor, having built several homes in Maine.
Jake is a licensed insurance agent with particular expertise in the marine insurance industry. He is Executive Underwriting Manager for McGriff, Seibels & Williams, one of the largest marine insurance agents in the U.S. and part of the 7th largest insurance brokerage in the country. McGriff, Seibels & Williams administers the United States Power Squadrons Insurance Program and operates several other nation-wide boat/yacht insurance programs for a network of independent agents, dealers and customers.
Eric grew up in Newport, RI and knew early in life that he wanted a career in boating. He has substantial racing experience with more than 50 starts, including the 2008 Heineken Regatta. Eric earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Denver and landed his first job as a professional in 2003 as Engineer on a 76 foot charter sailing yacht. Two years later he became captain of a 53 foot private sailing yacht. He has extensive knowledge of the cruising grounds of the Caribbean, Bermuda and the east coast of the United States
