Semco Teak Sealer
Semco Teak Treatment and Sealer - The Best Teak Product on the Market
Any sailor with teak decks knows the effort required to keep the decks in their natural color. Many have given up and let the teak “grey out.” But, I came across a teak-sealing product that really works. It’s the best teak product I’ve every used. Like the friend who introduced me to this product, I'm paying it forward.
Semco Teak Sealer when properly applied will keep your teak looking brand new and if nothing was on it. Yet, it will not turn grey, or promote the growth of mildew, and normal soil and stains can be wash off with a mild detergent and a mop.
I’ve used this product for two years now, going on three in 2017, and it’s fantastic. You simply brush it on with a disposable paint bush and it dries to a perfect finish. In fact, you can’t tell there is a finish. The teak keeps a beautiful blonde finish for at least three (3) months. After that time, you will begin to see slight patches of white’ish areas indicating that re-application is required.
Simply wash the decks with a mild detergent and rinse well, let the teak dry completely - - at least one day. Then simply brush on the sealer directly on top of the old sealer, no sanding required. Re-apply to the entire deck and once again you will have a uniform blond deck good for another 3-4 months.
Semco Teak Sealer comes in natural finish without any pigment at all which results in a teak deck that looks like freshly sanded teak. There are also four other shades of pigmented sealer to suit your individual taste. The pigmented sealers last longer because the pigment provides UV protection.
We recommended this product to a friend of ours who mixes 4:1 Natural and Honeytone for s very slightly pigmented finish and his reapplication time is extended to every 6 months. I prefer the freshly sanded look and the application is so easy, I don’t mind re-doing it every three months. The product is so easy to apply and it dries almost instantly. I start at the bow and work my way around the side to the stern, then back up the other side to the bow. By the time I reach the bow again, the deck area I started with is dry and you can walk on it. Piece of cake.
I'm also 100% certain that this product extends the life of teak decks. With our old decks that we left untreated and simply washed with a soft mop, we noticed that at the end of every season, in the bow area especially where grean water had boarded, the soft teak had eroded leaving a slightly ridged deck that required an annual light sand to return it to the smooth deck we wanted. With this product we've seen no erosion at all and I'm confident that this product will extend the life of the decks to 20 years.
I highly recommend this product and frankly will never use anything else. In addition to the beauty, the sealer protects the teak from erosion with gree water washing over the deck. Lastly, when wet, water "beads up" providing an excellent non-slip surface. Try this product, I guarantee you’ll like it.
