Hi Ken,

SailAngle which post news articles daily has been trying to find out about print and television coverage for the 33rd America's Cup. On Jan 7, 2010 after inquiring about media coverage, we (SailAngle) got the following quote from Valencia's Media Center - -

"Although there is nothing firmly in place for "live" television broadcast, negotiations are underway and this situation could crystallize at any time. What is known at present is that there will be some television coverage, albeit delayed rather than live."

So with one month left before the Match, that's all we know - - some television coverage, but probably not live. If we learn more, I will post it in the Forum topic.

Hi Kenneth,

Just learned that the America's Cup Match will be shown live and for free over the Internet - - see below.

MADRID (AFP) – The 33rd edition of the America's Cup, which is set to take place in Spain next month, will be shown live and for free over the Internet for the first time, organisers announced Monday.

The event is to be a three-leg multihull duel between the catamaran of Swiss defender Alinghi and US challenger Oracle's massive trimaran in the Spanish Mediterranean port of Valencia from February 8-12.

But legal procedures in New York mean the event remains in doubt just two weeks before the start.

The local organisers, "Consortio Valencia 2007", said in a statement that "for the first time the races will be broadcast live and for free on the site http://www.americascup.com">www.americascup.com" in order to allow as many people as soon possible to watch them.

Cheers,

I question what kind of bandwidth we can get out of a live broadcast but I'll hope for the best. It should be quite a spectacle if they actually get out of court and on the water. I did find a reference to TV coverage in Britain though so maybe there is still hope?

For some good match racing I look forward to Louis Vuitton in March. If you are interested the RSS feed is at http://www.louisvuittontrophy.com/home/

Press Release: ESPN360.com Weighing Anchor with the 33rd America's Cup

For the first time in its programming history, ESPN360.com—ESPN's 24/7 broadband sports network—will carry the oldest sporting trophy event and sailing's most prestigious regatta and match race, the 33rd America's Cup. The best of three races duel will take place live from Valencia, Spain beginning Monday, Feb. 8th at 3:45 a.m. ET. Race 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10th and—if necessary—Race 3 on Friday, Feb. 12th, both at 3:45 a.m. ET.

Calling the event for ESPN360.com will be ESPN sailing commentator and president of US SAILING Gary Jobson along with renowned sailing expert Randy Smyth, both former winners of the America's Cup. After breaking into programming to carry Race 7 of the 25th America's Cup in 1983—won by Australia off the coast of Newport, R.I., to break the longest winning streak in sports—ESPN networks televised every America's Cup competition through 2003.

The 33rd America's Cup is the highly anticipated sequel to the drama-filled result of the 32nd America's Cup in 2007 that sparked a two-year courtroom battle between defending champions Alinghi -- racing team for Société Nautique de Genève -- against Golden Gate Yacht Club's racing team BMW Oracle. This year's duel under the one-on-one Deed of Gift will settle the dispute between defender and challenger.

Log on to ESPN360.com to access the 33rd America's Cup and more. ESPN360.com is ESPN's live sports broadband network, giving fans a 24/7 online destination that delivers more than 3,500 live, global sports events annually.
